Cards Against Humanity UK Edition May 11, 2016 10:50
There was a time when I believed my family to be kind, decent, up-standing, compassionate people, each possessed of a conscience, and a solid moral centre.
That was before Cards Against Humanity came along and stripped me of such childishly naïve notions.
Shogun by James Clavell - Recommended Book to Read January 26, 2016 13:59
Shogun is a totally compelling novel which I first read as a teenager – and have since re-read so many times that the cover has fallen off my copy!
Jura Origin - Recommended Whisky January 23, 2016 16:01
Jura Origin is a ten year old single malt from the only distillery on the Isle of Jura (although the distillery offer several different bottlings, this is probably my favourite). It was also my introduction to “proper” whisky drinking i.e. without a mixer!
Aged in the usual former bourbon casks, this is one of the smoothest, sweetest whiskies I've ever tasted (that has never seen the inside of a port or sherry cask).
Peter F. Hamilton, Night's Dawn - Recommended Book Trilogy December 17, 2015 11:10
Peter F Hamilton is one of my favourite authors, and I consider his Night's Dawn trilogy of books to be his finest work.
Can You Make Money Gambling by Beating the Bookies? December 08, 2015 13:47
I've often wondered whether it's possible to make money from gambling. I'm not talking about a few quid when your favourite team wins at the weekend, or getting luck on the lottery.
Can you make enough gambling so that it significantly supplements your income, or becomes a realistic investment option?
Laphroaig - Recommended Whisky November 05, 2015 16:51
I was introduced to Laphroaig (pronounced La-froyg) by a former colleague, who, as a genuine Scotsman, I was inclined to trust when it came to the subject of what to drink...
The Benefits of Caffeine October 27, 2015 12:57
Caffeine is in our food, our drinks, our medicines, and it's THE active ingredient in a huge array of supplements designed to improve performance in the gym or aid weight loss. Why has this innocuous stimulant become so widely used? Because it's brilliant. Here are some reasons why...
Public Health Warning: Wasps Are Bastards September 17, 2015 10:56
Wasps are bastards, and it's that time of the year when they're starting to get even more dangerous...
Talisker Storm - Recommended Whisky August 25, 2015 16:05
If you ever need to buy a gift for a whisky lover, then I can recommend Talisker Storm.
Smell: Powerful and smoky.
Taste: Gentle and delicately sweet at first, but builds up an intense spicy strong kick. Strong salt & pepper quality which is interesting.
Iain M. Banks, The Culture - Recommended Book Series August 16, 2015 12:35
I discovered the Culture novels of Iain M. Banks as a teenager, and immediately set about devouring them. I've since re-read them several times. I'm struggling to figure out how to tell you just how much I enjoy these books!
Eve Online - A Recommended Game August 06, 2015 14:06 2 Comments
I like to think that I'm an intelligent man, and I've been a keen gamer since I was old enough to use a keyboard & mouse, so I felt confident that I'd be able to dip into EVE Online and become an interstellar god in no time.
After using the world’s most ridiculously detailed character creator to make an avatar that looks exactly like me (ahem), my dreams of internet spaceship dominance crumbled within a few short hours. EVE Online has a learning curve unlike any game I've ever played before...
The Caveman Store Blog July 30, 2015 14:00
There's so much marketing noise out there, that it's almost impossible to make a decision about whether a product or service is any good.
There's a reason that most people still value a personal recommendation over any marketing campaign that companies can come up with.
